　いかに経済がそれで繁栄するからといって、「安全性」を確保する方法もわからず、何千年、何万年の間、ありとあらゆる生物に測り知れぬ危険をもたらすような、毒性の強い物質を大量にためこんでよいというものではない。

　そんなことをするのは、生命そのものに対する冒瀆で あり、その罪は、かつて人間のおかしたどんな罪よりも数段重い。文明がそのような罪の上に成りたつと考えるのは、倫理的にも精神的にも、また形而上学的に いっても、化物じみている。それは、経済生活を営むにあたって、人間をまったく度外視することを意味するものである（190-1）。
